چکیده

T . C . C H A O für die Überlassung des Probenmaterials und Diskussion einschlägiger Fragen. Pigeonholing Planetary Meteorites:

The last few years have provided two noteworthy examples of misclassifications of achondritic meteorites because the samples were new kinds of meteorites from planetary rather than asteroidal parent bodies. Basaltic lunar meteorite EET87521 was misclassified as a eucrite [1,2] and SNC (martian) orthopyroxenite ALH84001 was misclassified as a diogenite [3]. (Here a planetary body is one that rem...

Irradiation Records, Cosmic-Ray Exposure Ages, and Transfer Times of Meteorites

During the 4.56-G.y. history of the solar system, every meteorite experienced at least one exposure to cosmic rays as a meter-sized meteoroid. The cosmic-ray exposure (CRE) age of a meteorite measures the integral time of exposure to galactic cosmic rays (GCRs). A fraction of meteoritic material was also irradiated by cosmic rays before ejection from kilometer-sized parent bodies (pre-irradiati...

WAS THERE A CONCENTRATION OF LUNAR AND ASTEROIDAL IMPACTS AT ~4000 Ma?

Introduction: Ever since the first suggestion that there was a clustering in the ages of the Apollo lunar samples at ~3900 Ma [1, 2], the question of whether that clustering represented an increase in the impact flux, as suggested by [1, 2], or something else [3, 4], has been debated. Since the rate of impacts with time is a critical input parameter for dynamical models [5], as well as having a...

Systematics and Evaluation of Meteorite Classification

Classification of meteorites is largely based on their mineralogical and petrographic characteristics and their whole-rock chemical and O-isotopic compositions. According to the currently used classification scheme, meteorites are divided into chondrites, primitive achondrites, and achondrites. There are 15 chondrite groups, including 8 carbonaceous (CI, CM, CO, CV, CK, CR, CH, CB), 3 ordinary ...
